I happened to be at Fry's today and I picked up the Pyro Firewire casing – $99.
I can't tell you how AMAZING this is. I had a 60 Gig drive that I wanted to use as shared storage. I opened the case, removed a few screws, plugged in the drive, screwed things down, and plugged it in. OS X identified it immediately, asked to format it, and it was mounted on my desktop in under a minute.
WOW – I feel so free!! It's amazing what a few dozen gigs of space will do for your 'e'-spirit.
