The Church of the Customer blog had an excellent post on moods in the workplace.
a. What is your personal mood?
b. Does your team amplify this mood (good or bad) or do they take on their own?
c. If there is a negatively amplified mood, how do you deter it?
Kids are great examples of this. You fly off the handle for a brief moment, not realizing it at all. The next thing you know, the kids are re-enacting your example, but at a greater amplitude than you originally perceived.

This weekend has been an absolute dream. I can’t express how much I needed it. Work this week was indescribable and I was in dire need of some distractions. We had our Christmas Potluck at the office on Friday. It was a lot of fun! Saturday, we hung out around the house for most of the day. My mom stopped by and brought us some lunch. That evening we went out to see Santa. Then we went over to the set of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. We were able to see several members of the cast, including Ty Pennington. It was incredible to see so many volunteers, all of the energy, and an tremendous amount of enthusiasm from the crowd. They went from demolition to completion in less than 110 consecutive hours. AMAZING!! After that, we came home and watched Superman Returns. Sunday we lazed around in the morning, spent the afternoon helping my mom clean out her gutters, and then hit evening church. We were planning on capping the weekend with Nacho Libre, but we’re both exhausted. Tomorrow is going to be another rough day so we’ll need as much rest as possible. Since I haven’t been to bed before 3a for the past two nights, I’m going to call it “early” tonight and head for dreamland.

For My Democrat Friends:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures who contribute.
For My Republican Friends:
Here’s wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

I’m on a mission. I’m looking for a case of Mead Bungee notebooks. I can’t find them anywhere! I just called the Mead customer service line and am waiting to hear from a product specialist. I’ve purchased all of them that I can find and even resorted to having my family buy them whenever they see them. Hopefully someone will call me soon so I can restock. I’m running low!

Well, I have been on vacation for the past week. It is something that I rarely do, but it was definitely needed. I haven’t spent this much time without physically going into the office in, um, well, ever! Unfortunately, our vacation didn’t play out quite like we had thought. Other than a trip to Dallas for a few days to visit with my sister and her family, we weren’t planning on going anywhere. Instead, we had a lot of little day-trips planned around town and hoped to get a lot of things done around the house. Unfortunately, my daughter got sick on Sunday and so we cut our trip to Dallas short. A couple days later, Anna and I started getting sick too. Sure enough, the next day, the baby started showing similar symptoms. HOORAY! What a fun vacation, eh? So, instead of living it up in a week of fun an excitement, we’ve been tending to sick kids, trying to rest up a bit while wrangling the youngsters, and taking a few little mini-dates as time and babysitters permit. Here’s a quick rundown of our fun:
– Late dinner at III Forks in Dallas.
– Trip to Walgreens and a 20-minute walk around the neighborhood
– Went to the park to play for a couple of hours
– Snuck out to The Main Event to bowl a few games
– Fun at The Little Gym followed by lunch with the family
– Cruised up and down the new toll roads to see how fast we’ll be able to zip around town
– Drove to the new IKEA to see when they open (November 15th!!!)
– Dropped some solid cash at the new Round Rock Premium Outlets
Not quite what we had planned, but overall it has been a good week. I’m going to miss hanging out with Anna and the kids next week. It has been fun running errands with them and hanging out. I can hardly wait until our next vacation. 🙂

Today I scored a refurb 15″ Mac Book Pro. In a word — SWEET!!
A few things to note:
- As long as they are available, I’ll never buy anything other than a GLOSSY screen. It is awesome.
- The back-lit keyboard is a dream-come-true.
- The mag-safe power adapter has already come into play. What a great innovation!
- The extra-wide screen is refreshing. I feel like I have almost as much space as my dual monitors at the office.
- The screen is brighter, the sound is louder, and it just feels right.
The only down side is that it still gets very warm on the bottom and sides. I can barely stand to touch it for more than a few seconds.
Bravo to Apple. You, once again, have knocked another one out of the park.

It’s official. We own a mini-van. My wife has been drooling for a mini-van for over a year. Now that we need two carseats for the kiddos, her little car wasn’t very practical. She had been driving my Explorer, however since it is a bit aged, there isn’t any rear A/C and the kids were always hot. Sooooooooooo, thanks to the incredible folks at CarMax, we’re now the proud owners of a 2004 Honda Odyssey.

“The master of the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him, he’s always doing both.” – James A. Michener
